Kolin lies between Prague and Kutna Hora, making it a convenient base for day trips. The town itself also has much to offer. History lovers can visit St Bartholomew's Church, designed by Peter Parler, two Jewish cemeteries and the restored synagogue, which recalls one of the largest Jewish communities in the Czech lands. For a walk in nature, explore Borky forest park or the Polepy valley and its waterfalls. Families can enjoy the Vodni svet water park, the wooden sculptures and memorial to the Bears from Kolin, or a ride on the historic sugar beet railway. Cyclists can follow routes into the nearby countryside and further afield. Kolin's water tower is also a popular lookout point.
Kolin is associated with the bandmaster and composer Frantisek Kmoch and the international brass music festival Kmochuv Kolin. The town also offers cultural activities throughout the year, including plays and concerts at the theatre, music at the Scapino theatre club and the municipal cultural centre, and screenings at Cinema 99. Check the organisers' websites for current programmes and event dates.
